Sweden Unveils Official National Quantum Strategy to Drive Commercial Scaling and Defense Resiliency Through 2036

The Swedish Ministry of Education and Research (Regeringskansliet) has officially published Sweden's National Quantum Strategy (Sveriges strategi för kvantteknikområdet), establishing a unified policy, infrastructure, and commercial roadmap that extends through 2036. This strategic framework aims to translate Sweden's strong academic research foundation into commercially viable deep-tech enterprises, secure sovereign communications, and align national efforts with broader European and Nordic defense initiatives.

Key elements of the strategy focus on enhancing testbed and cleanroom infrastructure, such as those at the MAX IV and European Spallation Source, to support startup scaling. Furthermore, the framework aims to stimulate private capital mobilization via the Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP) and the state innovation agency, Vinnova. The strategy also prioritizes talent development through national STEM initiatives and addresses geopolitical security risks by mandating transitions to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) for public institutions and critical infrastructure.
