OQC Expands to Barcelona with €92 Million Global Manufacturing and R&D Hub

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) has announced the establishment of a new global hub in Barcelona, Spain, named the OQC Global Quantum Development & Manufacturing Centre. This facility will serve as the company's primary center for the design, development, and industrialization of its superconducting quantum hardware, marking a significant step in OQC's global growth strategy.

The project represents a €92 million ($98M USD) investment and is expected to create 210 high-skilled positions over the next five years. This expansion is designed to more than double OQC's current workforce of 150 employees. Operations at the new site are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026. The move comes following the company's recent £260 million ($350 million USD) Series C funding round.

Unlike the company’s existing colocation data center footprints, the Barcelona center will focus on core hardware scaling, including dedicated laboratory space, technical assembly areas, and R&D for quantum systems tailored for Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS). By securing a presence within the EU single market, OQC aims to bolster European technological sovereignty and establish Barcelona as a key node in Southern Europe’s deep-tech landscape.
